Melodyne is a multitrack audio recording and editing application that lets you process and manipulate audio files in a revolutionary but musically intuitive way. Melodyne detects the individual notes of a recorded melody and lets you manipulate them - regardless of whether the source audio comprises vocals, solo instruments or percussion - as easily as if they were MIDI. Melodyne lets you arrange and combine existing audio files and refashion sounds using functions that are powerful and precise without ever losing sight of their musical purpose. Melodyne streamlines music production, making it more efficient and more precise, and offering a level of power and flexibility you never dreamed possible. From subtle pitch correction to the creation of complex harmonies from simple melodies, from nudges and tweaks to time-stretching by as much as 1000 per cent, Melodyne integrates effortlessly into any production environment, simplifying step after step of the post production process, and making your work in the studio a whole lot easier than ever before.
Pitch shifting and time stretching...
. were awkward operations in the pre-Melodyne age, too problematical to even bother with unless things had gone badly wrong. In Melodyne, they're a breeze! You can perform time stretching, pitch shifting or formant correction without even thinking; just grab the notes already recognized by the software and move them around in pitch or time and everything will sound as you would musically expect it to. Or you can move the tempo slider during playback, and you will hear the music accelerate or slow down without this in any way affecting the pitch.
Arranging & remixing
In Melodyne's arrange window, all your melodies are displayed with all their notes. So you can see at a glance what's on a track without even listening. Here you can move tracks around, and copy or loop melodies. You can save detected melodies for re-use in another arrangement. Remember, it's easy to slot a new melody into an arrangement - even one with a different tempo, tonality or pitch.
MIDI control & audio-to-MIDI
Melodyne can be remotely controlled via MIDI; detected melodies can be played back via MIDI. Most of Melodyne's parameters can be remotely controlled and automated via MIDI. This allows you to make effortless use of Melodyne's power using the controller you're most comfortable with. Detected melodies can be played back via MIDI, including all the controller data needed for an expressive performance - volume, pitch bend etc. The tone generation could be supplied by an external MIDI module or else by VST instruments hosted by Melodyne. This opens a myriad of new possibilities for creative sound design. You can even use the phrasing from your vocal track to breathe new life into your synth! Naturally you can export your MIDI data as well.
Specifications
Melodyne is a stand-alone application running under Mac and Windows. Melodyne supports SoundManager, CoreAudio, ASIO2 and (under Mac OS X) Digidesign's Direct-I/O. You can integrate Melodyne into your existing production environment using the Melodyne-Bridge supplied. This supports the plug-in formats VST, AudioUnit, RTAS and DirectX. Melodyne also supports ReWire. Melodyne reads and writes a large number of audio formats (WAV, AIFF, SD2, SND, AU) in up to 32-bit / 192 kHz resolution. Melodyne is offered in two versions: Melodyne studio and Melodyne cre8. Melodyne cre8 offers a maximum of eight tracks and the playback and editing of mono files. Melodyne studio offers an unlimited number of tracks as well as the playback and editing of stereo files.
