So Far The Best Sounding Drum That I Have Played.
Customer Rating

Musical Experience: 6 years started marching percussion this year (2005-2006 school year)
Style of music: rock thrash... mostly anything but rap hip hop...

I’ve had this drum for a few weeks now. I chose the 14x12 version. It comes pre assembled and tuned (not well) from Pearl. The factory heads are bad; so I recommend a Remo Black Max, White Max, or Cybermax. Also order a Remo Clear Snare side. I was shocked at how light it was compared to the SFZ snares that my school uses. At first I thought it was missing parts; but no, it is just very light for a marching snare. It is easy to tune! I had never changed a head on a marching snare before, and it was quite simple. I thought it would be difficult because on message boards many people complained that it is nearly impossible to align the tension rods with the screws. All you need to do is hold the rod in place and screw it in a little bit so it holds. After that it's no different. The Pearl Mg tube carrier is light and comfortable! The carbon finish draws attention to the drum. People will look twice. I saw a line with Carbonply snares, quints, and basses, and they look much nicer than some of the wraps and standard finishes. These drums will draw just the right amount of attention. The snare has a much cleaner sound than an SFZ with the same head combination. The attack is sharp, loud, and bright. The Carbonply FFX is a very responsive drum, when tuned in very high tension the lightest finger tap can be heard. I put my ear close to the drum while I was tuning it, my hair brushed against it, and it made noise. I do not like the “feet”. The feet protect the bottom head and snares. They serve a good purpose, but are not my style. They have no affect on the performance of the drum, so it is just personal preference. I removed them in a few minutes. There are 2 “feet” on the drum, and they are held on with 2 nuts each. They are bolted down and will not fall off like the little pegs on the SFZ. Over all this is the best sounding, lightest, coolest looking marching snare I have played or seen. I give it an 11 out of 10.
