Hometown Austin, TX
After 14 years of DJing in different towns across America, I have learned one thing: It's not the DJ, it's the music. This sub is a fantastic performer for a mid to large audience. The speakers don't seem to stress at all, even without a compressor. The only thing is, at 120 some odd pounds, this dude is a beast. Most people like myself (who don't have the cash flow for roadies) don't like to have to haul something THIS big around all of the time. But, a large dolly will take care of that problem, and a neat little discovery of my own: Casters. With the speakers pointing up, you can push it on casters attached by wingnuts. (Not included). Yamaha makes NO recommendation of this and it MAY void the warranty due to the fact that you have to open up the cab to install it.

Hometown East Coast
I had the Yamaha EMX 5000-20 with two S115v's. It was a great system, but I wanted more bottom end. I listened to a couple of unpowered subs and the SW218v won hands down. It was tighter and had a much better response even without a compressor. Like any other sub you have to make sure the crossover is set correctly for the room but it takes care of the bottom very well. I'm using a Carvin CP900 power amp briged and I could use a little more power. However, with what I have the SW218 more than handles the "feel dimension" of our sound. It's a little much for smaller rooms but set off to the side of the stage, as I normally do, it handles the kick drun, bass, and two keyboards quite well and just watch your levels! For the price, you can't beat it. The SW218v is a bit heavy and after 35 years of playing out, most players I know try to "downsize". However, if you want a full sound with an "in your face" effect that hits you in your chest, the SW218v more than does the job. I would also like to say that I have been dealing with Music123 for a while and their service has been great and the people that handle the phones are quite helpful and when they say the item you ordered will be there within a certain time frame...it happens. Keep up the great work guys (and gals).
