Detailed Product Description

This Custom Xeno is the first in Yamama's Artist Series. It was manufactured and designed to the highest quality standards with the combined input of John Hagstrom of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Yamaha Brass Designer Bob Malone. A French bead bell rim with low dome wire improves sound projection, thanks to the refined, sharper rim edge. The instrument also features a Malone MC1 'hidden' reversed tuning slide design oversleeve, which is based on Bob Malone's classic leadpipe designs.Intended for use by top orchestral professionals, the trumpet's design places it at the pinnacle of orchestral trumpets, and sets the standard for other instruments that Yamaha will release in the future as part of the Artist Model series. All Yamaha wind instruments come with a limited 5-year warranty.

I just got this trumpet in the mail from Yamaha today and couldn't put it down. The middle E and Eb play amazingly well in tune without having to use alternate fingerings. The tone is very good in all dynamic ranges, and I recommend this trumpet for everyone. The valves are the smoothest Yamaha valves I have ever felt. I can’t wait till I can use this in a concert for everyone to hear.

Extremely well designed trumpet with flexible sound and superb tuning. A serious option for the "spoiled" pro, but the price is getting really close to that of the smaller "super brands" that provide real custom work to your personal wishes. Playing the instrument shows us what Yamaha is capable of providing us if they put all their expertise in one trumpet. Personally I think it is a great-, top class-, but over-priced serial trumpet. I still rate it 4 stars (price related opinion) because I really respect Yamaha´s choice to put a trumpet on the pro-market that has been designed with maximum care and without compromise.

I have known Bob Malone for over 15 years. Like many symphonic trumpet players I have had work done on my trumpets by Bob, including two complete conversions. The result was always an incredible improvement and I feel very fortunate for any new concept that will make my work easier. My latest trumpet improvement was a Malone leadpipe on my Yamaha Custom HG C trumpet (discontinued I believe) which I have played consistently for the past two years. This trumpet is a wonderful instrument which has been even more enjoyable since I designed a new line of mouthpieces for myself with Gary at GR Technologies. Now my new Chicago Artist C trumpet with the GR Mouthpiece is a perfect marriage for making music. At this stage of my career (37 years of professional playing) I am definitely playing at a level that I thought was only approachable by a much younger player. I'm even thinking of taking a few auditions this year. I can't thank Bob enough for his many years of research and dedication to the end result of this fabulous Chicago Artist Yamaha trumpet.

I think Yamaha has finally got it straight. I have been a Bach fan all my life. I have tried the Yamahas (Bb & C) of the past and found then very good with intonation, but lacking in tonal color, character, and projection. With Mr. Malone and Mr. Hagstrom's help AND the amount of time, money, and research that went into this horn, I personally think Yamaha has finally come out with a horn that can truly compete, head-to-head, in the orchestral horn market with the current leaders.
